Course Overview & Objectives
Treatment decisions for lung cancers have become increasingly complex due to rapid growth in clinical and scientific knowledge related to these diseases. This course is designed to provide medical, radiation, and surgical oncologists, nurse practitioners, and other interested clinicians with the tools and knowledge to apply the latest findings into clinical practice. It will help practitioners understand how to incorporate molecular diagnostics into treatment decisions, apply new staging methodologies, utilize new targeted therapies and deliver individualized, multimodal treatment strategies for patients. Faculty will use lectures, panel discussions and case presentations to share advances in diagnosis and treatment as well as to highlight areas of consensus and controversy in the multidisciplinary management of thoracic cancer.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the course, attendees will be able to: understand and apply new research that is changing lung cancer care; identify clinical research opportunities for patients; and evaluate and incorporate molecular information into clinical practice for personalized patient care.
About the Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center
The Lowe Center for Thoracic Oncology provides expert care for patients with lung cancer, malignant mesothelioma, mediastinal and thymic tumors, and metastatic cancers to the chest. Our multidisciplinary team consisting of thoracic surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, pulmonary disease specialists, radiologists, pathologists, nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, dieticians, and social workers, offers advanced care, tailored to meet the needs of each patient, in order to maximize patient outcomes and quality of life.
Our center is also a leader in clinical and laboratory research to identify innovative treatment strategies for thoracic malignancies. A strategy of personalized therapy permeates our research, with clinical trials developed to identify the most promising new cancer drugs and deliver them to the patients most likely to benefit from them.
